204,200 seedlings are ready to be distributed to farmers for free in Dormaa East

β€œI reiterated my commitment to assist in diversifying Ghanaian agriculture transforming among others cashew, into a major cash crop and foreign exchange earner for Ghana”-Β  [President Akufo-Addo, @Wenchi in the Brong Ahafo Region,February 2018]

The president said this when he launched the 10-year Cashew Development Plan.

The Planting For Food and Jobs, which involved about 200,000 farmers was successful. This let to the expansion of the program to Planting for Export and Development.

“By all accounts, the first year of the program for Planting for Food and Jobs, which involved some 200,000 farmers has been successful”, President Akufo-Addo

Under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) project, all 216 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives have been given oversight responsibility for the production of not only cashew seedlings, but also for seedlings of oil palm, shea, cotton, rubber and coffee, for distribution to farmers from next year [2019]

To achieve this development plan, Hon Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman, DCE of Dormaa East and his team have embarked on series of Agric related project. This projects include the production of Seedlings.

So far so good.

Below is his own words when he visited the sites on August 15,2018

“We paid a visit to our 13 cashew nursery sites in dormaa east yesterday. About 204,200 seedlings are ready to be distributed to farmers for free as part of the planting for export and and rural development initiative by the government of H.E Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo. We are grateful to the Agric directorate and all our volunteers for their support. We also visited the Peprashed CHPs compound that is ready for inspection and handing over”
