District Chief Executive meets with Women in Soap Productions

 

Dormaa East District chief executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman has met the Royal Beauty Queens, a group of Women in Soap production based in Ampenkro, at the Dormaa East District.

An initiative to stimulate increased women’s economic empowerment and agency through a market systems approach.

In 2020, the Dormaa East District Assembly together with it’s development Partners; VIS Ghana trained women in soap making for sustainable livelihoods to 300 women who were socially and economically disadvantaged.

With this vocational skills training, about 100 of them are in active soap making and living with dignity by earning money themselves.

During this training, women learn and developed skills in making different types of soap like bar soap, liquid soap and bathing soap and the demand for soap is not affected by economic meltdown due to the important role soap plays in our daily lives.

The leadership of this group, named the Royal Beauty Queens led by their president, Mad. Agnes Yeboaa and Hon. Janet Asamoah, assemblywoman for Ampenkro, Amenfi called on the DCE to brief him about their activities, production capacity, savings, challenges and how to resolved them etc.

Hon. Kofi Agyeman with excitement testified the very healthy and quality product they produce, further encouraged them to explore indeginous ways to produce the palm kernel oil and the cocoa biochar which are the major materials for production to reduce cost of production.

Hon. Agyeman promised the support of the district assembly and further appealed to NGO’s and developmental partners to aid the assembly to expand this viable human and economic impact in creating more employment.

The group were further challenged to learn and produce different products to aid their market expansion. Currently the group produces shower gel, washing soap, alata black soap etc

In attendance for the meeting were Mr. Ibrahim Mahama-DFO, Enoch York-BAC, Amoah Roy Richards-Planning officer, Ockrah Anyin Evans district budget officer.

Hon. DCE further led a team on a working visit to their production base at Ampenkro.
